For a long time, the world of The Wild Darkroom has been defined by the steady rhythm of the sun, the deep indigo of the wash, and the quiet magic of analogue photography. It has been a joy to share these moments of creation with you.
But as any maker knows, creativity rarely stays within the lines.
Over the last year, my shelves have begun to fill with more than just paper and chemistry. I found myself drawn to the works of fellow artisans, to the weight of vintage tools that still have stories to tell, and to the idea that “making” is just one part of a much larger, tactile way of living.
Introducing Wildkin
I wanted a name that could hold it all. Wildkin is that home.
It is a name rooted in “Kinship”—the connection between the maker, the object, and the person who eventually cherishes it. While The Darkroom remains the beating heart of what I do (it’s not going anywhere!), Wildkin allows us to branch out.
What you’ll find here as we grow:
-
The Darkroom: Our signature hand-painted cyanotype kits and papers, made by hand right here in Kent.
-
The Curation: A rotating collection of “found” items – vintage cameras, storied finds, and curious objects that deserve a second life.
-
The Makers: Artwork and handcrafted goods from other artists who share our love for the slow and the soulful.
Changing Slowly
In a world that demands everything happen instantly, we are choosing to move at a different pace. You will notice the name on our packaging, our shop, and our stories changing over the coming months.
It won’t happen overnight, and that is intentional. We are growing like a forest – layer by layer, season by season.
Thank you for being part of this community. Whether you are an old friend from the darkroom or a new member of the kin, I am so glad you’re here.
With gratitude,
Karen
